Roadmachine 01 Mod

BMC Roadmachine

Go and find a country road. Wave at the few cars you see. Stop at a gas station and sit on the ground to stretch. Have people ask how far you're going, and watch their reaction when you tell them. Stuff an assortment of food in your pockets for the last push home, and roll out. The click of your shoes into your pedals an affirmation. You are connected to this bike. It is a part of you.

Our latest build, and the first of 2023. A BMC Roadmachine 01 Mod frameset with a 1 piece carbon cockpit, SRAM Force AXS drivetrain, and house built wheels.

The Process

We started as we always do ... with measurements and conversation. Our client quickly decided on a Roadmachine frame for the endurance geometry, and we put together a quote for a build that would reflect the quality of the frame. The Industry Nine hubs were a splurge, but we reckon they’re a worthwhile one.

Knowing that the frame kit comes with a one-piece bar and stem, we then created the exact measurements on our fit bike, to ensure that we ordered in the appropriate stem length and bar width. We also confirmed that the overall fit would put the rider in a balanced position.

Things were ordered.

We built the frame to 90%, then proceeded with a final fit and saddle selection, before trimming the steer tube, wrapping the bars, and delivering the bike with a walk through of the electronic shifting system.

This is what Bicycle House was created to do, and it’s a process we love.

Wahoo Smart Trainers

Wahoo KICKR Trainer

We Texans are a tough breed. We march through life, facing our problems head on while muttering things like, “The only way out is through.” We’re doers, who forge our own path. Unless, of course, that path is slightly chilly. When temperatures dip below 40° we cancel rides with impunity. If it’s nearing 30°, school and work is on the table as well.

To maintain fitness through these dark times we’ve being using the Wahoo KICKR Smart trainer. It’s a premier product, that breathes life into the soul-sucking prospect of indoor training.

Why We Like It

The KICKR is a smart trainer. This means it boasts an integrated power meter to keep you honest. It’s also Bluetooth and ANT+ compatible, so it will easily sync to your devices, or online programs like Zwift or Wahoo X. As someone who used to watch cyclocross races on YouTube while on the trainer, this compatibility is a game changer. One benefit of indoor training is that it’s an ideal environment for structured workouts.

If you’d like to do hills, select a hilly route in your training program of choice and your KICKR will automatically adjust resistance, accurately simulating grades of up to 20%. There are even group events and online challenges that do a great job of keeping you motivated.

The direct mount system reduces wear on your drivetrain, hubs, and tires, and fits a wide range of tire sizes and hub spacings.

Compatibility

The KICKR v6 we stock comes with spacer kits for 130/135 quick release, 142mm, and 148mm (boost) hub spacing. It also includes a Shimano compatible 11spd cassette. If you’re on a 10 or 12 speed bike, you’ll either need to move over your existing cassette, or purchase one specifically for your trainer. If you buy from us, we’ll be happy to show you how to mount your bike and which spacers to use. After the initial setup, your everyday rides are easy. Hop on. Start pedaling to wake the system. It will be recognized by your computer and you’ll be set.

These trainers aren’t cheap, but they aren’t cheaply made either. The heavy flywheel provides realistic coasting, and they’re designed to hold up to years of use. We’re fans, and reckon you’ll be as well.

Vince's TCR Disc Build

A journeyman’s bike, one for riders who actually ride. A bike for those laying down big weeks on Strava, regardless of the season. A bike for people who prize durability, serviceability, and value. We love the decisions you made on this TCR build, Vince. Can’t wait to see it on the road.

A race ready Giant TCR Disc frame with room for up to 32mm tires.

Bombproof House Built wheels with serviceable DT Swiss hubs, wrapped in tubeless 28mm Pirelli’s.

Wireless SRAM AXS shifting.

A cost effective, yet accurate crank based SRAM Rival power meter.

Properly built for a proper rider.

Austin Energy E-Ride Rebate

2023 Update

Starting Jan 1, 2023, the City of Austin is doubling rebates on eligible E-bike purchases. Electric bikes that retail for $2,000 or more receive a $600 rebate from the city!

In a city like Austin, where growth seems to have outpaced infrastructure, E-bikes have proven themselves to be a viable transportation alternative. A quality E-bike helps to reduce air pollution, saves you money, and still provides quality cardiovascular exercise.

We’re fans.

Luckily, Austin Energy has also gotten behind this, and is offering local customers rebates on electric bike purchases. There are a few caveats, so check out the official Austin Energy Electric Ride Rebate Page for all the details.

Key Points

  • The bike purchaser must be a current Austin Energy customer.

  • You must purchase a new bike from a certified dealer (like us), who is also an Austin Energy customer.

  • Rebate amount depends on bike purchase amount.

  • Rebate must me applied for within 60 days of purchase.

We’re proud to offer quality pedal assist e-bikes from Momentum, Giant, Scott, & BMC. These are brands that create E-bikes for people who love the sport of cycling. If you’re interested, swing by. We’ll ensure that you get a properly fit and assembled bike that suits your needs.

House Built Wheels

A hub light enough to remove any excuse, yet durable enough to see you through the big days. Spokes chosen with care, then cut and threaded to length in-house. A rim with just enough depth to cheat the wind, but not so deep as to take control of the bike.

There is some indefinable romance in a set of custom built wheels. It’s a fizz, as James May would say. Something you don’t feel when buying a wheelset off the shelf.

We’ve long been proponents of custom wheels, and internally joke that we started a bike shop, simply so James would have an excuse to buy a Morizumi spoke cutting machine. Obsessing over the details is our idea of fun. Lining up valve holes with logos brings us peace.

If you’re looking for a new wheelset, we’d love to help. In most cases custom wheels aren’t any more expensive than other high-end options, and you have the ability to customize every part of the build.

Pick the perfect hub color. Use a spoke count that works for you, and lace them to the proper rim for your goals. In our experience, hand-built wheels stay true longer, and have less issues than their machine-built brethren. The hubs we sell can be rebuilt. Bearings can be replaced for years of use.

We’re believers, and reckon one set of House Built wheels will make you one as well.

Interested? We’re here to help. Shoot us an email, or swing by and tell us what you’re looking for. We’ll be happy to talk you through the options.

Bicycle House x English Cycles

We started Bicycle House to provide industry best service and quality products for our clientele. That said, bringing in a custom bike manufacturer has always been a foregone conclusion. What better quality that something handmade? What better service than to create a one-of-one bike, tailored specifically for an individual rider.

To make this dream a reality we needed three things to happen:

  1. Open a Bike Shop - Done

  2. Have a method for determining custom geometry - Our fit system does an admirable job

  3. Pair with a world class builder - See below

English Cycles

With a masters in mechanical engineering and extensive palmerès (including a NAHBS best in show), Rob English is a powerhouse of data driven creativity. We’ve long been fans of his work, and Rob is widely recognized as one of the best builders in the biz. English Cycles works from a form follows function perspective that’s refreshing in today’s marketing first world.

We’re not implying that his bikes aren’t beautiful things. We’re simply saying that the beauty on offer is more than skin deep.

Over the last couple of months we’ve been communicating with Rob, learning his process while figuring out the logistics of our partnership. Having ironed out these details, we’re beyond pleased to officially announce our status as an English Cycles dealer.

Looking for a lifetime bike? Need a geometry not offered by traditional manufacturers? Let’s craft something special.

The Process

Ordering a custom bike starts with fit. It’s a foundational, crucial piece of the puzzle. We’ll spend some time determining your ideal fit in house, then generally encourage you to ride the new position for several weeks, ensuring that things are dialed.

Once proper fit is established, we’ll pull exact measurements and send them to English Cycles, along with a description of what you’re looking for. How would you like the bike to ride? What issues are you trying to solve? Belt drive? Crazy tire clearance? Mounts for four bottles?

Rob will take this mountain of information and derive from it a geometry that addresses your checklist. Once that geometry is agreed upon, he’ll put you into the queue and we’ll start discussing the rest of your build, sourcing suitable parts to compliment the bike, and even chatting about paint color options.

We won’t say it’s a short process, but we reckon it’ll be a highly rewarding one. If you’re interested, swing by, or follow our social feeds. Thomas has already ordered his own English, and will be sharing updates as the build evolves.
